As Pinterest continues to take the social media world by storm, learning how to incorporate this marketing darling into your business can feel like an overwhelming task.
Where to begin, what to pin and how to come up with content are the typical questions I receive. The good news? More than likely, you have all of the content you need right at your fingertips! Below are five quick and easy ways to boost your business with Pinterest!
Share Your Product, Service and Specialty
Whether you want to share your latest product, a specific service, your specialty, or your online and offline content, pinning it will boost your online visibility and add credibility to your business within your area of expertise.
Plus, with each pin you add from your website or blog, a link is created directing traffic back to the original source. In fact, it now accounts for more referral traffic than Twitter, once thought to be the superstar of social media referral traffic.
Getting Started with Your Boards
- When you initially set up your Pinterest boards, you want to remember a few things. Your boards should group together similar content. Keep your boards focused on one particular topic to make it easy for anyone following you to easily identify which boards are of interest.
- Use keywords in your boards such as “social media” or “Pinterest tips.” Pinterest search is a powerful tool. Use keywords strategically to enable anyone searching via specific terms to quickly and easily find you.
Give a Sneak Peek into Your Company
Offer a unique look into your business by sharing pictures that give a behind-the-scenes look in to your day. This could include anything from employee photos, images that show a historical timeline of your business, event photos, and fan favorites as they visit your store.
The sky is the limit, but the goal is simple. Use Pinterest as a way to connect with customers in a manner you have not been able to on any other social network.
Create Boards Unique to Your Business
Think of Pinterest boards as buckets of similar content. As you begin to create your boards, make sure that each one is not only specific to your niche, but also exciting, entertaining and unique to your business.
For example, if you are a local bakery, create boards that share your favorite recipes, your latest creation and testimonials from your raving fans via eye-catching images.
One of my favorite local bakeries shares their love of all things ooey-gooey and oh so delicious across all of their Pinterest boards. My favorite is the “Fresh from the Oven” board that Magnolia Bakery tempts us with. Treats like this red velvet cheesecake are to die for!
Use the Pin It Button
The pin it button is an easy way to quickly grab and pin anything you stumble upon online. Whether it is your latest product or an article from your favorite website, pinning is a breeze when you add the pin-it button to your browser.
The added bonus for any business website or blog is the fact that when you pin your content you automatically create a link back to the original content. This allows anyone viewing your pin to click on it and be directed to your website.
- Always add a description to your pin! You don’t want to leave people wondering what your content is all about.
- Always give attribution where attribution is due. If it is not your content, site the source and make sure the link is directed towards the original content.
Add the “Pin It” and “Follow Me” Buttons to Your Website and Blog
The Pin It button is also available for your website or blog. This makes it easy for anyone visiting your online properties to share your content with their followers.
The Follow Me button is a social media icon that lets anyone visiting your site follow you without leaving your website or blog.
To add directly from Pinterest, go to the widget builder section to create your customized “pin it” or “follow me button.” Once you add your Pinterest URL and full name, the html code will appear. Copy and paste wherever you want the widget to appear.
