Hi
I hate hackers and try to do what I can to keep them away from my blog. I try to keep WordPress and all my plugins up-to-date. I also use the plugin "Limit Login Attempts" to block for brute force attack.
Hi Thomas! Those are great steps to be taking. That is what I was doing too, then I found out that was just the start. I am blown away by how many ways someone can get in, if they don't what they are doing. I hope to see you on the conference call Thomas! :)
I think you should have done a Google Hangout instead of a conference call, but maybe you want to collect email addresses?
John, I believe you can only have 10 people on a Google Hangout. That would limit the amount of people who could participate.
OK, thanks. I was thinking about the on-air broadcast hangouts, those are listen only so that wouldn't be a very good dialog.
Thank you also for the tip on Bulletproof Security in your podcast. I am already testing it on a site.
That's fantastic John! I hope you were able to sign up for the conference call. It will definitely be worth your time. :)
Hi John! That is a great idea! I know we are planning on doing more on different web security topics, so I will talk with my friend and see if he is up for that. Thanks for the idea! :)
I guess we could always a small Q&A session DJ? That might work. :)
Absolutely. I think people would really be interested in that. :)
Great post Paul, and awesome advice Thomas…Thanks to both of you…
My pleasure! Thank you! It sure is an important topic. :)
Hello Paul,
This is a old post but I want to ask you a question, if you don't mind answering it. The question is How many ways are there by hackers can hack a site? do tell me your thoughts. To secure my wordpress I use limit login attempts, the plugin you have state here and lockdown wordpress admin.
Hi Anurag!
There really are countless ways hackers can use to get into a site. I have found that one plugin is not enough. Here are some of the plugins I use: https://plus.google.com/101247653130621784944/pos…
Something else to make sure of, is checking all of your permissions on your files. You don't want stuff that is readable. The bulletproof plugin listed in the link, will tell you which files need changes.
I hope that helps! :)
Interesting podcast. Seconly, I guess the most mostly WordPress sites are hacked which are run by extreme beginners. Smar hackers put maliciaous codes in WP plugins and themes and then capture innocent newbies, very bad :(
Well, I wish that was the case, but I have found that not to be exactly true. I know of plenty of well seasoned bloggers that have gotten hacked too. That amount of hacking that goes on blows me away. Crazy…
