With months of speculation, assumptions and rumor-mongering, the launch of the Xbox One and Playstation 4 has everyone guessing which console will come out on top.

That’s the premise of some algorithmic number-crunching done by social media lead identification company LeadSift. The firm tracked thousands of conversations on Twitter that were specifically about the two consoles. It kept tabs on which consoles were mentioned the most , then dove deeper into those conversations to understand which conversations included a sense of purchase intent.
It’s the first time since 2006 that Sony & Microsoft released a gaming console. In a few months, the highly anticipated Xbox One and Playstation 4 will be available for the masses to enjoy. In the gaming industry, the anticipation can be found at almost every corner of the globe as a mix of fans and haters are waving flags in support of the console they will be buying. The launch of these new consoles is being highlighted as a make or break situation for both manufacturers as a sense of console loyalty will be clearly shown through product sales.
While the actual winner of the console battle will not be revealed for quite some time, the popularity contest that is social media offers hints and insight at what might transpire. The clear indication of the accuracy around this data can be found in the demographic insights that were pulled from these conversations showing the attributes of a stereotypical gamer.
