When Daniel and I set out to create SteamFeed back in August of 2012 we were looking to create a community of professionals that could come together under one roof to give the best advice on marketing, social media, and technology. We wanted people who practiced what they preached. We wanted people who were on the front lines fighting to get the best results for their clients and themselves while maintaining integrity then share those experiences with the world.
We began our search through a trusted friend, Robert Caruso (CEO of BundlePost), and one author led to two then three and so on. Before we launched on September 18th 2012 we had 18 authors that were excited to be a part of this endeavor.
Daniel and I knew we had something special on the eve of the launch. I hardly slept that night. The next day it was obvious that we all had created something of great value because the social sharing of all the articles that went live that day was tremendous.
The growth of the community continued at a rapid pace throughout the year. So much so that on May 16th Gerry “Gettysburg Gerry” Michaels, one of our original authors and host of SteamFeed Radio, became a partner to help bring SteamFeed to the next level.
What we didn’t expect was the genuine friendships that quickly formed. From back and forth emails, to twitter chats, holiday videos, Facebook discussions, Hangouts, etc… we bonded. It wasn’t just about networking or business anymore. It went deeper than that. Why? Because the people we brought on cared. They cared about getting to know one another. Helping each other. Providing real value. This community has proven that social media can be a very powerful tool. Ultimately we created a family.
We asked a few of our authors to share their thoughts on what it means to them to be a part of our SteamFeed community and this is what came about:
Featured Authors: What SteamFeed Means to Me…
“In celebration of our first anniversary, I wanted to share my thoughts on what being a part of the SteamFeed community means to me.
Creativity may come from a spark within us but it is fed by the inspiration and motivation of friends and peers.
Whether it’s the Brill Building in New York, Silicon Valley in CA or Bloomsbury, London, people have been challenged and inspired to produce the greatest art, music and innovation by belonging to a close group of peers.
SteamFeed is much more than a multi author blog site, it’s a network of writers, podcasters and broadcasters that support and challenge each other to produce the most helpful and relevant content possible.
Last Fall, this mild mannered blogger jumped aboard the SteamFeed express, threw his horned rimmed glasses and tie aside (phone booths are so hard to come by) joined the league of SteamFeed Authors.”
“Why am I a fan of SteamFeed, and why do I appreciate my membership in the group? The answer is short and sweet: SteamFeed is a virtual family. My participation has provided me with an amazing opportunity to meet new people who share a passion for social media. Everyone in the group wants to help others and increase brand awareness for others. Thanks to DJ, Daniel, and Gerry for their efforts, and I look forward to what the future holds!”
“When I was asked to be a part of SteamFeed, it was with great excitement that I said yes…
First, the person that nominated me is someone I admire and respect as a professional, and I was honored that they thought of me. Second, it impressed me that there was a process and plan for forming the SteamFeed author community. DJ Thistle and Daniel Hebert – two gentlemen young in their professions – showed both wisdom and innovation beyond their years.
As an author, SteamFeed has become a family of professionals. I’ve become friends and gotten to know wonderful people I would have never met. It is also a resource to learn things I maybe would have never thought of. And, of course, it was fun to be on SteamFeed Radio!
For readers, SteamFeed is truly a top-notch resource with information on most any topic for the business brand, small business owner, solopreneur, or non-profit stakeholder. The authors are authentic professionals of what they write about — They don’t just play one on TV. This means the quality of content is high because it is based on proven results based on actual real life experience. That’s priceless!
I am just thrilled to be part of such an amazing group, and proud to be a SteamFeeder! I can’t wait to see what this powerhouse accomplishes in year two!!
Happy Birthday, SteamFeed — Thank you, DJ, Daniel, and Gerry!!!”
“One year, a great idea and the power of an active community can do a lot these days. When I think back to my original conversation with Daniel about becoming a contributing author on Steamfeed my initial reaction is wow, they did exactly what they set out to do and more. I was, and I still am incredibly honored that Robert Caruso recommended me to DJ and Daniel to be one of the original contributing authors on Steamfeed. I so am grateful for the opportunity to share my voice. Everyday when I visit the site I learn something new, while being challenged and for that I want to thank all the authors. Besides what I learn from each article, I am so appreciative of the relationships and friendships I have gained. Of the 50+ authors contributing regularly I am proud to say that I have spoken or met with more than half of the authors and feel comfortable calling many of them friends. Yup, I think this whole Internet, Social Media thing might just stick around for a while… and so will Steamfeed. #SMRebels Rock! ”
“I want to wish SteamFeed a very happy Anniversary. As a new member of the writing team, I’ve been impressed with the community and their welcome team spirit. The leadership of DJ, Daniel and Gerry has been remarkable – and each one knows how to #bealeader and it shows in their dedication to their creating a brand that sets the pace for others to follow. It’s a honor to be on the team and I know the best is yet to come.”
